MEET THE FOUNDER
Stephen did his Masters degree in mathematics the same year that the new secondary school maths curriculum – Project Maths – was being rolled out.
Stephen studied this new course in detail and his Masters thesis analysed the various ways in which teachers could use innovative resources and activities to teach this new, application focused maths curriculum. Stephen created an abundance of activities, example questions and resources as part of this thesis; many of which were selected to be part of the teacher training manual to be used to upskill the nations teachers. This training was carried out by a selection of Maths teachers, who themselves trained at the National Centre for Excellence in Maths Teaching at the University of Limerick (NCE-MSTL). Stephen was part of the NCE-MSTL team, who trained the Project Maths teacher trainers.
Stephen was a maths teacher in the University of Limerick, teaching Business Maths, Tech Maths, Engineering Maths, Statistics and Calculus. Stephen has worked at the Maths Learning Centre in UL, helping 3rd level students understand mathematical concepts. This would range from the very basic Tech Maths and Stats to 1st year Business and Science students, to more complex Calculus and Analysis to final year Engineering students. Through the NCE-MSTL he also gained experience working with various publishers, designing activities and resources for their e-learning websites. Stephen also designed the entire maths curriculum architecture for the e-learning system of the most prominent publisher in the country. Stephen has taken all this knowledge and experience with him as he cultivated and developed his own school, Leamy Maths. He was the first teacher in the country to implement e-learning practices in his own maths school.
Our mission is to provide the most engaging and fulfilling online maths lessons. We merge many different facets of technology to create an engaging environment for the learner. We understand it is inadequate to simply record a lesson in front of a whiteboard, given the possibilities of technology. We promote active learning in all of our lessons, and a primary objective is to help the student become a more independent learner.
